SPICE UP YOUR EMBROIDERY WITH MYLAR!

Featured

It doesn’t take much extra time or expense to add some bling to your embroidery using Mylar. You can get a sheet of mylar for under $15 and use that one sheet for a very long time, as it only takes a small piece to accomplish big results! The embroidery design needs to be digitized a little different, so when purchasing designs make sure it was created for Mylar. At Embroidery by EdytheAnne, we usually include a regular version along with our Mylar versions. You also will want to use Iridescent Mylar, which is translucent and will allow the fabric underneath the mylar to show through. You can achieve unique results depending on the print you put underneath

Here is my favorite for Iridescent Mylar. This is by Purely Gates and is available for purchase on Amazon. it contains one sheet, 18″ x 30″, which will last a lifetime!. The photo makes it look like it’s an opaque lilac color, but that is just because it’s folded. When you unfold it, you’ll see the iridescent quality.

Do not confuse the Mylar sheets above with a Mylar balloon, although I have read that you can use Mylar balloons just by cutting a portion off. I’ve also heard not to use Mylar balloons. So, you could give it a try and let me know how you like using the balloons as I have not tried it.

The design I’m going to show here is a new Christmas Stocking for this year completed in just two hoopings. Each hooping makes a portion of the stocking and then at the end the two sections are connected while still In The Hoop!

Here is a closeup of the angel. The shimmering blue, is a light blue fabric with the iridescent mylar over top. The wings are a pink fabric with the same mylar over top.

The excess Mylar comes off easily just by tearing it away from the outside edges.

If you’re using a solid color Mylar it doesn’t matter what fabric you put on the bottom, as the Mylar is going to cover it.

I want to point out that when you’re using Mylar you need a design that has been designed specifically for Mylar. Using a conventional embroidery design will simply cover the Mylar and you won’t even see it.

SOLID COLOR MYLAR OVER A PRINT FABRIC

In this butterfly design, we use a solid gold mylar You can see the gold coming through, but you don’t see the gold fabric. The solid color Mylar covers the fabric & as you can see it’s a very easy way to give a metallic look to a design.

In this example, we used the Iridescent Mylar and used a print fabric underneath After adding the mylar you are still able to see some of the print behind the Mylar. It usually makes an interesting look.

Here it is after embroidering the Iridescent Mylar over the print.

We have this design in our shop. You can view it by clicking HERE

With the design you will also get written instructions and a full video tutorial showing how to put the two hoopings together and finish the butterfly.

WHAT IS IN THE HOOP MACHINE EMBROIDERY?

Featured

Hi again, some of you may be completely clueless about what it means to stitch out a design that is called In The Hoop. Even if you’ve been doing machine embroidery for a while, you still may not have done an In The Hoop Project or ITH as it’s sometimes referred to.

A lot of us collect embroidery designs and they can really pile up in our file folders if they are digital or on discs if we still get them physically. So, you have all these designs and now what to put them on…hmmm… We’ve even tried them on a roll of toilet paper! There is a better way.

So, what is In The Hoop? You could consider it as a 3-D design, because when you’re finished you will have an actual item. You will be creating the item as well as adding the embroidery! There are so many ITH projects. Here are just a few for you to consider & ones that a beginner can do: Bookmarks, Mug Mats (also known as Mug Rugs), Napkin Rings and Coasters. Getting into more of an Intermediate level would be Placemats, Centerpieces, Accent Pillows, and then to continue your skill level into the wonderful world of In The Hoop Machine Embroidery, you will want to advance to Bags/Purses, Wall Hangings & Stuffies.

At Embroidery by EdytheAnne, we specialize in In The Hoop Projects and have a lot for you to choose from. Come on over to our Website – InTheHoopEmbroideryDesigns.com and check out all the many projects available. As a matter of fact, on weekend’s we have a promotion that we call Dollar delite in which we offer a design for only $1. Sometimes the design is an In The Hoop design as it will be THIS weekend! This is an easy ITH Quilt Block. You will have the batting, quilting and design all stitched out In The Hoop! You can stitch blocks together to make a quilt, table runner, placemats, potholders and more.

If you have wanted to try an In The Hoop Project here is an easy and inexpensive way to experience this new skill. All you need is an embroidery machine and a 4×4 hoop, as this weekend’s design comes in 5 different hoop sizes, including the 4×4!

And be sure to check out the new Free Designs for this month!

ADJUSTABLE STRAP TUTORIAL

for BAGS AND PURSES VIDEO TUTORIAL

Adjustable Straps are great for adding to a CROSSBODY BAG. We have numerous ones in our online shop as well as our Etsy Shop.

If you make bags and purses, you’ve probably at some time wanted to add an adjustable strap. Many of the written tutorials are just…can I say… hard to understand. Some of the video tutorials are also hard to understand. I published this video a few years ago and I’ve been told it is one of the best around. Here it is for you to view and let me know what you think. CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO TUTORIAL

Adjustable Straps are great for adding to a CROSSBODY BAG. We have numerous ones in our online shop as well as our Etsy Shop.

To make a 3/4″ – 1″ Adjustable Straps, you will need:

STRAP:  Fabric strip is dependent upon who will be wearing the bag. A child is around 25”. An adult anywhere between  42” to 55”. Using the Tri-Glide Adjustable Ring is best. The fabric width of the strap should be 4 times the finished size of the strap. In this tutorial we are making a 3/4” strap because I like to make the strap slightly narrower than the hardware making it easier to feed through the rings , so this fabric should be cut 3” wide.

Continue to the Video for the remainder of the tutorial .As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

BACK TO SCHOOL

BACK TO SCHOOL

When you see Back to School sales in all the stores, you can be assured that Fall is right around the corner. Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas (our favorite). But then, let’s not jump the gun!

Most schools are starting classes back this year the way it was before Covid. That means REALLY Back to School instead of Zoom classes at home. There are also the Home Schoolers who spend some days at home with mom or dad doing the teaching and maybe a Zoom class or two. Also, spending some days in a school-type environment learning some of those subjects that the parents are not experienced with.

Some people think that home-schooled kids don’t have the social environment needed to develop good social skills. I have to say that my grandkids are being home-schooled and they are anything but socially inept. It probably takes more work on the parent’s part, but these days homeschooling is a long way from years back. There are many sports and music programs for these kids to compete and learn responsibility in teamwork. So, not only are the kids getting a good education & good social skills, but the parents are able to ascertain & control the learning environment.

At Embroidery by EdytheAnne, we have a collection of help for parents with their preschool children. Fun & colorful flash “cards” for learning numbers and letters. These have a Biblical emphasis on using Bible verses to teach these younger and impressionable ones. We also have a fun HAPPY CRAYONS Drink Mat that teaches primary colors and is an activity game they can play when having a snack. Check out these and other In The Hoop Projects for a variety of ages at our online shop Embroidery by EdytheAnne. AND be sure to download the two FREE DESIGNS on our FREE EMBROIDERY page.
